A Resource About Protection Against Home Fires
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Americans will gain an extra hour's sleep in late October when they pause
to change their clocks back from daylight saving time. But those who take an
extra moment to change their smoke alarm and flashlight batteries gain even
more: the best protection possible against home fires. Fire officials say
the simple annual practice of changing smoke detector batteries is the single
most easy, effective and accessible way to curb fire related deaths and
injuries. Yet an estimated 50 percent of home smoke alarms are now useless
due to old or missing batteries. In a national education program sponsored by
the International Association of Fire Chiefs, The American Burn Association,
and the Eveready Battery Company, a free brochure filled with great fire
safety tips has been prepared. It's yours for the asking. Send your request
to "Change Your Clock, Change Your Battery" Brochure, c/o Eveready Battery Co.
Division AB, P.O. Box 8797., St. Louis MO 63102. Not only does the brochure
provide a wonderful check list for you to run down, but will also serve a
reminder to change your batteries when you change your clocks. And that, I
suppose, is why they wrote the booklet!
